World Mental Health Day Celebration

Kala Academy Goa’s College of Theatre Arts, Panaji/Ponda Celebrates World Mental Health Day

Kala Academy Goa’s College of Theatre Arts organized a program on Saturday, 9th October, 2021 at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda-Goa to mark the occasion of “World Mental Health Day” which is celebrated on 10th October globally.

The program began with a movie screening. The movie “Devrai” is a depiction of a Schizophrenic disorder. The screening was followed by the discussion lead by Shri. Vijaykumar Naik, a renowned theatre artist and an avid reader of psychological disorders. He spoke about the disorder and shared his experiences where he closely witnessed the people who suffered from mental illnesses. He also highlighted the importance of the awareness about mental health in the society. The discussion was continued further with active participation of the students. A detailed discussion about the disorder and about the film making was done. The students got the opportunity their views about the movie and also raise their queries. Students appreciated the various aspects of the movie and shared their learnings.

Miss. Chaitali Gawas (College Counsellor) spoke about the significance of the World Mental Health Day and the theme i.e. “Mental health in an unequal world”. She shared the importance of the mental health and how we can take care of our mental health and contribute towards understanding and supporting the mental health of others.

Principal Prof. Ramrao Wagh, expressed his views about the mental health care. He quoted a movie called “A beautiful mind” which also portrays the schizophrenia disorder and advised the students to watch it. He spoke about how students have been facing various problems during the pandemic period and suggested the students to seek help as our college provides the counselling services to the students.

Shri Vijaykumar Naik and Prof. Ramrao Wagh threw light on existance “Devrai”(the sacred grove) in Goa and shared their experiences of visiting the groves.

To celebrate Fit India Movement 2021, Department of Physical Education and Sports and IQAC cell of the college had successfully organized step up into challenge for staff members and the students. On this occasion the participants were felicitated and the winner of the challenge Mr. Ajay Fondekar was awarded by the hands of Principal Prof. Ramrao Wagh. The students who have been part of Red Ribbon Club and Mission Clean Goa Project were appreciated and congratulated for their participation. Miss. Divya Gawas, a final year student compared the program. The teaching and non-teaching staff of the college coordinated and supported in successfully conducting the program.Assistant Professor Mr. Satish Narvekar, Assistant Professor Mr. Shrikant Gaude, College Librarian Miss. Sushma Gaude, Director of Physical Education and Sports Mr. Swapnil Bhaip and students of college were present for the program.
